He worked for three years as Operations Manager of CIMA, a Peruvian non-governmental organization, as part of an interdisciplinary team that successfully implements the protection strategy for the 1.35 million-hectare Cordillera Azul National Park. Alvaro also taught environmental science to high school students in Chicago, and worked for the California Condor Recovery Program with the Zoological Society of San Diego.
