Research
Plant systematics and evolution, focusing on phylogenetic inference, macroevolutionary inference, biogeography, and biodiversity informatics. I'm particularly interested in the Himalayan region of south-central China (the Hengduan Mountains region), which is one of only a few biodiversity hotspots in the temperate zones. Pedicularis is an exemplar group of plants that has undergone dramatic diversification in this region, and I am using it to study trends in floral evolution, as well as ecological hypotheses of community composition and assembly. At a regional and global scale, I am working on integrating phylogeny with the characterization of biodiversity hotspots.
