| Key Structure: 1. Leaves simple; flowers almost covering spadix - 2 1. Leaves compound; flowers limited to the base of the spadix - 4 2. Spathe green or mottled-brown to purple, convolute, more or less surrounding the spadix; leaf blades hastate or sagittate or, if cordate, then usually much longer than 15 cm - 3 2. Spathe white, open or flat; leaf blades usually cordate and less than 15 cm long - Calla palustris 3. Leaf blades cordate, foul smelling when bruised; spadix globular in shape - Symplocarpus foetidus 3. Leaf blades sagittate or hastate, not malodorous; spadix elongate - Peltandra virginica 4. Leaflets 3; spathe varigated green or maroon; spadix short and blunt, covered by the spathe - Arisaema triphyllum 4. Leaflets 7-15; spathe green; spadix elongate, extended 5-10cm beyond the spathe - Arisaema dracontium |
